In addition to the standard singles and multi-man tag formats, there are several match types that Toryumon and Dragon Gate have either created or set the standard for.

-3 Way 6 or 8 Man Tag-
Fitting with the unit war concept that has always been the focus. While 3 or more way matches are typical pro wrestling fare, the Dragon System multiple team efforts have been a class above.

-Key Hunting 3 or 4 Way Match-
Used to determine the Open the Dream Gate #1 contender. The challenger key is hidden inside one of the turnbuckle pads. To win the match, the key must be found. Eliminations occur via normal methods, and after opening 4 turnbuckles without success.

-Naniwa Elimination Match-
Creation of Masato Yoshino. This match is a 5 on 5 format elimination tag. It follows battle royal rules. It begins with 1 member of each team. Then other members arrive every 90 seconds. The entrances alternate back and forth, the team that will gain the temporary 1 man advantages is determined by pre-match coin toss. Normal fall rules are in play, in addition to over the top rope eliminations.

-Oedo Elimination Match-
Creation of K-ness. Also 5 on 5 elimination that begins 1 on 1. The remaining team members are stationed up in the bleachers. Instead of 1 entrant every 90 seconds, 1 member of each side enters from their station. Only decisive fall rules are in play, no over the top rope.

-Nagoya Elimination Match-
Creation of Dragon Kid. 5 on 5 elimination with a 1 on 1 start. Follows battle royal rules like the Naniwa match, but entry order is drawn completely before the match. This means one team can gain up to a 5 on 1 advantage. Follows the same elimination rules as Naniwa until all participants are in, then over the top rope is taken out of play.
